Welcome back to my lair and welcome to a new year, all you sexy people out there in the dark. You know you missed me. This is the year I get the mattress & boxspring for that excellent king size four column bed I have. Yes, keep thinking about that. You know what it looks like.
This is not my bedroom, but this is my majestic bed. I just love curling up, snuggling down after lighting candles so I can watch those haunted house movies you know I love so much.
The holidays were a nice, quiet time at our house. The animals and I were able to get in some much-needed and much-appreciated silence and relaxation. The birds & the cats got a replacement VCR, more VHS Disney movies, and treats. They do enjoy watching movies, but we must be careful the movies are only Disney, because we don't want them repeating inappropriate words, now do we?
One Christmas Eve day I went to the annual Presents for Paws at the Allegany County Animal Shelter, a fantastic No-Kill shelter, and saw all the wonderful people who brought in donations. My friend Jodi from Queen City Animal Rescue told me a dog and 7 cats were adopted, and over 3 1/2 tons of food and supplies had been donated. I saw friends like Kerry, Sandi, Cindy, and Jim, as well as met Peter Masloch who runs the shelter and just won a national award, Michelle, who was up from Baltimore and working with the cats, and Marc Bochy, who was busy cleaning out kennels. It was great to see a community come together for such a worthwhile cause, to help save the lives of animals. A big thank you to everyone.
I didn't put up a tree this year. That's strange for me. But you all know the struggle with the fake contractor who stole my money instead of repairing the flat roof on the back of my house. There us a bit of good news on the court front: he has been indicted by a grand jury on 2 felony charges, each carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years. The actual trial probably won't be until March, the State's Attorney told me.
They can't tell me I will see any money back; they did say if he wants any consideration for time off or parole or probation, it would be in his best interest to pay us back. I doubt it will happen, even though I keep picturing it, giving it substance. It would be a weight off my shoulders if he paid me back; it would be even better if he paid me for the damage done to my house because he didn't do his job.
On a really cool note, I found the exact conservatory or sun-room I want for the back of my house. Only a few changes and it would be perfect for what I want. My friend Anthony said I could potentially cut down on cost in a lot of ways. He should know, he's a big construction guy. The bad part of that is he's across the country so he wouldn't be doing it. But it's a dream for a couple years from now.
I'll put a picture here so you'll know what it looks like. I love the lights on each side of the french doors. And I would replace the stone, since it matches the house in the picture, with brick so it matches my house. And of course I would want a chandelier hanging on the inside. I just wouldn't be me if I didn't want that. A nice, two-level chandelier crystal chandelier. I could always put my big Christmas tree in the conservatory to enjoy. What a great idea.
I have always wanted a conservatory ever since I watched the movie Clue.
Isn't that just awesome?! I'm totally in love with it. The birds & the cats would just love being out there. And I could use the space for the animals for the better part of the whole year, from early spring through summer and into late fall. and maybe even into early winter because sometimes it's warm through the day even in winter. Just imagine the conservatory on the back of my house. I have no idea what it would cost, but we'll work on that. Like I said, it's a project for, at the earliest, summer 2013, for obvious money reasons. There are things I need to get done inside the house, including getting a new back flat roof, before I can begin the process of working on a conservatory.
Writing. I haven't written too much.
I have made a little progress on the Sixth Book of the Scarabae Saga, Shadows Amongst the Moonlight. More of the more-than-mortals! Magic. A killer. And of course, those spicy scenes you know you love so much.
A Christmas Canticle is a third of the way completed and I really love the story; I believe a lot of people will enjoy the story next holiday season.
Rhayven House, my return to haunted houses, is in its early stages. I did manage to weird myself out for the first time ever while writing a scene for this non-Scarabae book. I know the readers will love it. It has a few gross scenes, but it's one heck of a story.
Life has kept me busy. I wrote a few songs. Well, I wrote the lyrics. You all knew that. But creating is creating. Mostly, I've been going to work, coming home to clean cages, litterboxes, et cetera. The normal activities for me and I wouldn't have it any other way. Even though the little white cockatoo Chiffon chewed two fist-size holes in one of the custom-made blackout drapes; the panel can be patched so I'm not all that out of sorts it; it is after all only a material object.
I need to work on getting the information about my books out to more people. My books, while they enjoy a growing cult following, need to be introduced to a larger audience. I am in the early stages of opening communication lines to help me with my writing. Keep those good thoughts coming, and remember: word of mouth is the best publicity.
Today, after running errands and things like that, I decided I was going to relax a little. I had some potato chips--and you know some of them were held in reserve so I can dip them in ketchup later--and my pasta salad and watched Lost Souls with Winona Ryder. Well, Winona Ryder wasn't here watching the movie with me; she was in the movie I watched. Not a bad little movie, but for those religious horror movies, I rather prefer Stigmata. I Am Number Four caught my attention; I'm not at all sure I care to finish watching it. Next, I may watch a little classic from the '70's called Frogs. Should be interesting. The possibility exists I may watch one of my favorite movies later: Rosemary's Baby.
Don't you just love how I ramble on and on about nothing at all?!
Okay, I will close for now and go do something that could be considered constructive.
And as always, keep the animals in your thoughts. Remember to make a gift to an animal shelter/rescue. You would be surprised to know even a dollar or two can and will save lives. Drop off some toys, litter, dry or canned food. Check with a shelter about cleaning supplies since each has their preference. If you can't donate money or supplies, you can always donate an hour or two of your time each week to share some love with animals who may get little to no human contact. You can make all the difference in the world.

That's about all for now. Except, let me add a link to a website. A great place for people to get real help, life-altering assistance.
